The Windows host file is a simple text file located in the Windows folder and is used by Windows to map. These files are easy to remember from hostnames to complex digital IP addresses. According to Microsoft, a host file is one of multiple system resources that resolve network nodes in a computer network and is a common part of operating system IP implementation.
Therefore, using this host file and making some changes to it can block certain websites on your computer.
So, no further let’s take a look at the steps to use a Windows host file to block a website:
1.Open Run command box by pressing Windows + R and type in the following %windir%\system32\drivers\etc. You can also navigate to the following path C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc.

2. Now double-click the hosts file in the etc folder.

3. Select Notepad from the list of programs to open the host file and click OK.

5. Now place the cursor at the end of the file and enter the website’s 127.0.0.1 address. As an example, if you want to block YouTube, please enter 127.0.0.1 www.youtube.com. Similarly, you can add as many websites as you can to prevent it. Once you have added the addresses of all the sites you want to block, then press Ctrl + S to save the hosts file.
